Description of the Shoreline Community College
Shoreline Community College is a very significant college in Seattle. Students have the opportunity to receive two years education, leading to an Associates degree, and transfer to an American university, where a Bachelors degree can be obtained. The focus is preparing students for a university. The college is divided according to programs: Business, Automotive and Manufacturing, Health Occupations and Physical Education, Humanities, Intra-American Studies and Social Sciences and Science. The Student Counseling and Advice Center assists students with any question, career planning, or personal problems. Moreover, students have the opportunity to participate in many organizations, or join a fraternity or Sorority, for example the International Club, which is of interest especially to international students. In addition, many activities, including sport options keep students busy in the free-time.

Shoreline Community College's campus, a 33-hectare premise, colorful and decorated with plants, is considered to be one of the nicest in Washington. It lies only 10 miles north from Seattle's city center. The campus area is considered to be great for extracurricular activities. In 26 buildings, students find everything they need, for example the award-winning Automotive Training Center, computer rooms, laboratories, a student center, theater, fitness center, child care center, multimedia center, and the Ray W. Howard Library/Technology Center. In addition, there is a hair stylist, book store, gallery, sport places, and much more. Since 1990, the school has a satellite campus, the Shoreline Community College & Lake Forest Park, made up of six teaching facilities, computer rooms, a test center, conference room, and offices.

Seattle is Washington“s largest city in the northwest of the USA between Puget Sound and Lake Washington and has 570,000 inhabitants. The Canadian border in the north is only 180 kilometers away. In the west of the city are the Olympic Mountains, in the east the Issaquah Alps and the Cascade Range located. Particularly the inner city is rather hilly and the climate is convenient with an annual average temperature of 10,6 °C. Seattle is well-known for its culture since it houses the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Opera and Pacific Northwest Ballet. There are also countless museums and galleries such as the Consolidated Works, the Frye Art Museum, the Henry Art Gallery, the Seattle Art Museum, the Museum of National History and Culture and many more. People can also visit one of the 400 parks such as Arboretum Washington Park, Seward Park, Discovery Park or Woodland Park Zoo. There are opportunities for golfing, canoeing, fishing and hiking. In the surroundings of the city are areas for skiing, hiking, rafting and some beautiful landscapes such as Mt. Rainier National Park, Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and many more. That could be some of the reasons why Seattle has several times been voted the most livable city in the USA!
